The ANU Chancellor’s International Scholarship offers an opportunity for students from around the world to access one of multiple scholarships available to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The scholarship is designed to attract a diverse range of high calibre international students to commence study at ANU.
These scholarships are distributed into 12 categories with at least one category applicable for students from anywhere in the world. For a list of countries included in each category, see the reference document on this webpage.
Note:
- Applicants will be automatically assessed in the below 12 categories based on their citizenship.
- Applicants will always be assessed first for the highest-value award for which they are eligible.
Field of Study
Any eligible program except:
- Doctor Of Medicine and Surgery (MChD)
- Master Of Military and Defence Studies
Types of scholarships
There are four types of coursework scholarships:
- Access scholarships
- Academic scholarships
- Sport scholarships
- residential sponsorship
A student can be considered for any eligible coursework scholarship; however, there are restrictions around what types of scholarships can be held concurrently as well as the total annual value of the scholarship package.
A coursework student can hold a coursework scholarship package up to a total annual value of AUD $35,000 consisting of:
- multiple ANU Access scholarships;
- one ANU Academic or one ANU Sports scholarship; and
- multiple Grants and Bursaries; and
- one ANU residential sponsorship.
Students must understand the type of scholarship they are applying for or have been offered as it may affect their current ANU scholarship/s.
In the case where a student is eligible for and is awarded numerous coursework scholarships which exceed the total annual value permitted, the scholarship package will be allocated according to (in order of priority):
- Highest total value of combined scholarships;
- Highest total value within the first year of the scholarships;
- Longest duration of funding.

- Student levels: Undergraduate Postgraduate coursework, Flexible double degree, Graduate Certificate, Master Degree
- Number of scholarships awarded: 200 on offer
- Selection bases: Academic merit
- Ongoing eligibility: Continuation based on full-time study load
Eligibility
The scholarship is available to a commencing ANU student who:
- is defined as an overseas student under the terms of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 and does not hold a 995 visa (unless enrolling in an eligible postgraduate program); and
- has received an offer of admission to commence at the University in an eligible program (excluded programs listed above); and
- meets the conditions of the program for which they have received an offer of admission including the requirement to be onshore for some components (if applicable); and
- has not received the scholarship previously for the same level of study.
