The competition for the Community Engagement Exchange Program is based on merit and is open to emerging civil society and community leaders who meet the following criteria:
- Age must be between 21-27 years old.
- Applicant must be a citizen of one of the eligible countries.
- Currently living and working in their home country at the time of application.
- Special consideration is given to individuals living in another country with refugee status who are working on behalf of their home community.
- At least two years of professional or volunteer experience in community or civil society work.
- Actively working on a community engagement project in their home country, either professionally or as a volunteer, with a clear intent to pursue a career supporting civil society.
- Able to begin the CEE Program in the United States in 2025.
- Able to receive a U.S. J-1 Visa.
- Committed to returning to their home country after the program to implement a community-based project.
- Applicant must be good in spoken and written English at the time of application.
- Semifinalists will need to take a Duolingo English language test.
- Finalists should be able to understand and communicate effectively on most topics, including both concrete and abstract ideas, and interact easily with proficient English speakers.
