This scholarship is available to candidates from member countries of the African Development Bank who possess pertinent professional experience and a track record of contributing to their nations’ development initiatives, and who are seeking admission to a graduate degree program in energy development and related fields.
Aim and Benefits of African Development Bank Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (AfDB-JADS)

- 140,000 JPY per month for living expenses (amount subject to change)
- Economy class air travel between the home country and APU at the beginning and end of the program
Eligibility Criteria for the African Development Bank Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (AfDB-JADS)
To qualify for the AfDB-JADS, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of a country that is a member of the African Development Bank.
- Be 35 years of age or younger.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent qualification) in fields such as energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, engineering, or related disciplines, with a strong academic record, relevant work experience, and a commitment to contributing to your nation’s development.
- Have a minimum of one year of paid work experience in your home country or in other African nations, obtained within three years following the completion of your bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
- Not be residing or employed outside your home country.
- Not currently enrolled in any graduate degree program.
- Not be an Executive Director, their alternate, or any staff member of the African Development Bank Group, nor a close relative of such individuals, where “close relative” includes Mother, Father, Sister, Half-sister, Brother, Half-brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew.
- Commit to returning to your home country to aid in its economic and social development after completing your studies under this program.
