KAS Sur-Place Scholarship Program In Ethiopia

The KAS sur-place scholarship is a local scholarship provided by the KAS Office Ethiopia/African Union to support Ethiopians pursuing post-graduate studies in Ethiopian universities. The term “sur-place” means “in place” or “on the spot,” indicating that the scholarship is for students studying in Ethiopia. We encourage women and persons with disabilities to apply.

Eligibility criteria include no age limit and all academic disciplines. The scholarships target young Ethiopians with a Bachelor’s degree entering or enrolled in a Master’s program in Ethiopia, or those starting their professional careers in Ethiopia seeking to specialize their skills. Notably, this scholarship does not support Bachelor’s, PhD, or overseas studies, but only Master’s programs in Ethiopia. Applicants must uphold KAS’ values of Democracy, Rule of Law, Social Market Economy, and Human Rights.

Konrad Adenauer Foundation, established in 1955, is a German political foundation associated with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Germany. The CDU, the party of five Chancellors since 1949, is rooted in Christian conservative values, European integration, and the transatlantic partnership.

What Is The Benefit Of KAS Sur-Place Scholarship Program?

There are two types of scholarships available: the “monthly academic scholarship” for Master’s students in Ethiopia, and the “training grant” for young professionals seeking to cover the cost of a short training course in Ethiopia to enhance their skills. The monthly academic scholarship provides a 70 Euro stipend to students enrolled in or about to enroll in a Master’s program, while the training grant offers one-time financial support for postgraduate professionals looking to specialize in their field through a short training course. Applicants for the training grant must submit a detailed proposal outlining the course they wish to attend, its cost, and how it will contribute to their professional development.

How to write a strong letter of motivation?

Successful candidates pay special attention to writing a strong letter of motivation. A strong letter of motivation shows your personality, your motivation for pursuing your career goals, and it gives an impression of your civic engagement. Applicants to the “training grant” should also clearly express the kind of training for which they seek support.
