Bolt Grant Program

The Internet Society Foundation adopts a forward-thinking strategy to aid in the advancement of groundbreaking techniques, technologies, and infrastructure that strive to improve Internet connectivity and accessibility. The Foundation’s goal is to provide assistance to groups of innovators, tech experts, scholars, and social/cultural workers in creating and testing prototypes and trial programs that will turn innovative ideas for Internet connectivity into actual solutions, especially in areas where current technologies are lacking or hard to reach. By directing our funding in this direction, the Foundation will open up possibilities to broaden the Internet Society’s belief that the Internet is meant for everyone.

The Internet Society Foundation is dedicated to fostering innovation to create better opportunities for people to enhance their lives. Collaboration and teamwork are key to developing new ideas, systems, and ways of working. Together, we can build a brighter future.

The BOLT Grant Program supports teams of innovators aiming to expand global Internet connectivity through prototypes and pilots. These teams can consist of creatives, artists, technologists, researchers, and more, as long as they are part of a relevant non-profit organization.

Teams should focus on creating technical and social innovations related to Internet connectivity that are cost-reducing, environmentally sustainable, trust-enhancing, user-relevant, imaginative, accessible, and engaging.

Eligibility requirements are outlined for all Foundation grants, and teams must ensure their lead organization meets these criteria. The Foundation aims to fund teams aligned with the Internet Society’s mission for an open, secure, and trustworthy Internet.

Applications for the BOLT program will be open from July 2 to August 6, 2024. The selection process will involve articulating how the project aligns with BOLT’s objectives and demonstrating affiliation with a 501(c)3 organization. An Independent Program Review Committee will determine the success of the applications.
