The APHRC seeks to recruit a Policy and Advocacy Officer to work on the two projects within the Policy Engagement and Communications (PEC) Program. The Officer will report to the Policy and Advocacy Project Manager while working closely with other project team members in PEC and other APHRC units. Externally, the officer will work closely with researchers, ministries of health and civil society organizations, among other relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute strategies for policy, engagement, and knowledge translation for two projects.
  • Assist in enhancing policy engagement and communication capabilities for partners.
  • Develop knowledge translation materials like evidence briefs, fact sheets, and project profiles.
  • Analyze policies on SRH thematic areas.
  • Lead the dissemination of research findings with innovative products to generate public interest.
  • Produce relevant documentation for advocacy and policy initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements by writing progress reports and updates.
  • Support the Policy Engagement and Communications Program by writing reports and assisting in fundraising efforts.
  • Coordinate and compile information for monthly and quarterly updates for timely dissemination.
  • Collaborate with APHRC’s Visibility Unit to engage with media for project profiling.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Communications, Development Studies, or related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience in policy engagement, communication, writing, content creation, public relations, and media relations.
  • Experience in legal and policy analysis of development projects.
  • Ability to produce high-quality written work to influence policy decisions.
  • Experience working with various stakeholders, including communities, NGOs, CSOs, government ministries, and bodies.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex information clearly to different audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage priorities effectively.
